Prof. Fabio Virgili, PhD

Fabio Virgili Fabio Virgili graduated in Biology from the University of Rome with a first class honours, and went on to complete his Ph.D. on .Cellular and tissue pathology. at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. He has been visiting scientist at the Rowett Research Institute of Aberdeen, Scotland, at the Department of Pathology of the University of Modena, Italy and at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Since 1987, he is (Senior) scientist at the National Research Institute for Food and Nutrition in Rome, Italy and he has been recently (1999) appointed as Professor of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Roma, in Rome.

Starting from 1990,he addressed his research on the role of molecules of nutritional interest in affecting gene expression and transcription factor activation. In particular, he focused on the modulation of cellular response to different stimuli in the early stages of degenerative pathologies.

He is also member of the Advisory Editorial Board of the journal "Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research."
